From 500 Goats to a Lifetime of Impact

Holy Goats partners with bush pastors in Kenya to build sustainable goat businesses that lift churches, families, and communities out of poverty—without long-term dependency on foreign donors.

The Challenge in Kenya's Bush Regions

In Kenya's arid and semi-arid lands (ASAL), millions of people live far from paved roads, reliable water, health facilities, and schools. Many pastors serving in these bush churches:

  • Live on the equivalent of 1–2 USD per day.
  • Are viewed as beggars rather than respected community leaders.
  • Serve congregations with no permanent buildings, no electricity, and fragile access to water.
  • Struggle to stay in ministry because of extreme financial pressure.

At the same time, many of these communities remain spiritually and physically unreached—with no church, no clinic, and no permanent water source.

Our Solution: Holy Goats

Holy Goats creates cooperative goat businesses owned and managed by clusters of bush pastors. Instead of a one-time donation that is quickly spent, seed funding is invested into a herd of goats that multiplies year after year.

1

Start with 500 Goats

We help a cluster of about 10 pastors start with around 500 goats, creating the foundation for sustainable growth.

2

Grow to 1,500 Goats

Over two years, the herd grows to a sustainable base of about 1,500 goats through careful management and breeding.

3

Generate $45,000 Annually

Each year, excess goats are sold and generate roughly 45,000 USD in revenue, funding church projects, herd management, and contributions.

Three Annual Budgets of $15,000 Each

Church Projects

buildings, wells, outreach, ministry needs

Herd Management

medicine, vaccinations, vet care, seed-loan repayment

Contributions

pastors' personal herds, emergency funds, new locations

The result is a self-sustaining, pastor-led enterprise that funds ministry, supports families, and multiplies into new communities.

Our Vision: 100 Locations. 150,000 Goats. 1,000 Pastors Lifted.

Over the next 15 years, our vision is to transform communities across Kenya's bush regions.

Why Holy Goats Is Different

Pastor-Led

Bush pastors manage the herds and make decisions together.

Local Ownership

The Kenyan COSEND NGO oversees and owns the herds until loans are repaid, ensuring accountability and sustainability.

Self-Replicating

Each business, once stable, helps fund the next location.

Holistic Impact

Ministry, income, education, medical care, and water—funded by goats.

Deeply Faith-Rooted

Everything is grounded in prayer, Scripture, and the conviction that God can do "immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine."
